Tonieboxes

Tonieboxes are square speakers that ‘read’ or ‘sing’ when a character (a Tonie) is placed on top. From the Tonies website: The Toniebox is a screen-free listening experience for kids 3+ that plays stories, songs, and more! Kids can control it all by themselves by starting/stopping, swapping Tonies, changing tracks, and even changing the volume with a pinch of the ear. Several libraries already have them, but they have added them to their Library of Things and require pick up at the particular library. CCL will be circulating our Tonieboxes throughout the system. The kits will be holdable and will travel on the van with all other youth services materials.

Tonieboxes can be found in the catalog under Lend and Learn: Toniebox. Currently we have Toniebox Red, Toniebox Blue, Toniebox Pink, and Toniebox Green sets. Each Lend and Learn kit is a backpack that includes one (1) Toniebox in a cover, a charger, an instruction/item list, and three Tonie characters. All backpacks are to be returned to a circulation desk and NOT placed in a drop box. This information is in the record, in the kit, and on the outside of the backpack. Additionally, replacement costs are also listed. Every kit should be checked for contents upon return, when checked in. Lend and Learn kits circulate for one (1) week.

In addition to the backpacks, we will also be circulating Lend and Learn: Tonies in sets of three (3) without the Toniebox/backpack. These sets of characters will be circulating in clear boxes with the pictures of the three characters visible. If a patron has their own Toniebox at home, they will be able to borrow a set of Tonies to listen to additional stories. The Tonies sets will also be holdable, circulate throughout the system, and will circulate for one (1) week. They are also required to be returned inside a library.

When the Lend and Learn: Toniebox and Lend and Learn: Tonies sets are available, they will be housed near the Playaways and interactive books in the Youth Services area.  I expect both the Lend and Learn Toniebox kits and the Tonies sets to be in high demand from patrons, so you may not see them often.

Please stop by the Circulation or Youth Services Departments before they go into circulation on Monday to see how they work.

A special thank you to Technical Services Cataloging and Processing, for creating records that patrons will be able to use to find these Tonies and Tonieboxes by item, or by story, and all of the work they did processing the bags.

If you have any questions, please let April know.
