Circulation Updates - October

 Circulation Updates – October

Password information from Joe Sherwood and the help desk:

1. Fundamentals of a Strong Password

Length: Use a minimum of 12 characters (14+ is ideal).

  • Complexity: Use three out of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols.
  • Passphrase Tip: Use a long, memorable phrase (e.g., Purple!Elephant4Hiking@Moon).

2. What to Avoid

  • Guessable Details: Do not use personal information (names, birthdays) or easily guessed sequences (123456) or (September2025).
  • Storing: Never write down passwords or save them in unencrypted files on your desktop.

3. Mandatory Changes

  • Change your password immediately if there is a suspicion of compromise and adhere to the mandatory rotation schedule of 90 day.

Thank you for helping secure our network. Contact the IT Helpdesk if you need assistance. BTW
- frankly from me and i need to be better as well... for the tip above, I'd avoid any dictionary
words... I'd use P@rple!El3phant4H!king@M00n... that'd be even tougher to guess. They will run
our list again in a few days and see how it is shaping up. Thanks, in advance, for your help in
keeping us secure.
